Newbie

Having never done this before, I feel a little silly. I have never been one to write down my thoughts. Never kept a diary or journal and never was one to write letters to friends and loved ones. I always preferred talking on the phone! Well, they say writing can be cathartic, so I am going to give it a try, even if no one ever reads it.

At 46 years old, I am what is considered morbidly obese, there I said it (or wrote it as the case may be). At 5' 4" tall and 250 pounds that's almost an understatement. I have been heavy most of my life, but as a child and teen was not what I would now consider fat or even pleasantly plump. I would say that I was big boned and solid. But, I was always told by someone that loved me that I would be pretty, if I'd only lose some weight. Ha! What little did they know then. Well, I digress, anyway I recently had a health "screening" at work and they did some quick blood work, blood pressure, BMI measurement (like I really needed to hold that stupid thing in my hands to find out that almost half of me is fat), stuff like that. And all of the test (except for that BMI thing) were actually quite good. Cholesterol - 194, HDL - 47, blood glucose - 80 and blood pressure 110/70 so not bad at all.

But then I realized, nothing last forever and that if I don't do something now I may NEVER do it. You see, I am the "WORLD'S BIGGEST PROCRASTINATOR". I can put off just about anything until tomorrow. But I'm not getting any younger and I want to be able to enjoy my retirement (if I EVER get there).

So this blog is going to be my journey to wellness, not neccesarily skinnyness. I hope that I can learn some things about myself along the way and maybe help somebody else as well.

I will also keep track of what I eat during the day here (although I may not get to write every night) so here is today's food.

Breakfast
Kahsi Fruit and Grain Bar - Dark chocolate and Cocnut
3 spears pineapple
Del Monte Fruit Naturals - Pink Grapefruit

Snack
Kashi Chewy Granola Bar - Dark Mocha Almond

Lunch (brought from home)
Fried catfish about 3 oz
1/2 cup corn
1/4 to 1/3 boiled new potatoes
1 cup steamed broccoli

Snack
small piece of dark chocolate (I LOVE chocolate, so that can be a problem area)

Dinner
Grilled Chicken with cajun seasoning again about 3 oz
1/2 cup sesame noodles (made with whole grain pasta, green onion, garlic, small amount of olive and sesame oil and black sesame seeds
1 cup steamed broccoli

Dessert
Kemps frozen yogurt (This is another big down fall. Ever since I can remember, ice cream has been a staple, okay almost a right, in our home. My granddaddy had it before bed everynight until the day he died!)

So first day, hopefully of many, not great, but not terrible either. I've been down the diet route many times before but never in such a public manner. Hopefully, if anyone ever reads this, ya"ll can keep me sane and focused.
